Welcome to our brand-new training academy for aspiring actors and directors, the Academy trains a small cohort during the summer, culminating in a week-long open-air theatre tour.
We are thrilled to get to work with an incredibly talented next generation of artists, and help them navigate the industry, from networking with west end performers to audition practise.
The Academy Participants have the opportunity to experience what it is like to perform for a professional touring theatre company and to perform to a range of local venues and audiences.
They have the opportunity to engage in exclusive workshops and Q&A sessions with industry professionals and our very own professional 2024 tour - a troupe of accomplished actors and directors (who have appeared in shows at West End venues such as The Royal Opera House and The Kit Kat Club in ‘Cabaret’).
In Summer 2024, The Tethered Wits Academy presented the timeless tale of identity, wit and cucumber sandwiches: The Importance of Being Earnest. We visited some beautiful venues in the Cotwolds area, bringing to life Oscar Wilde’s legendary satirical comedy is a modern classic, dazzlingly brought to life in a stunning open-air setting.
Q&A WITH ACADEMY STUDENT, 2024
Why are you doing the Tethered Wits Academy this year?
“To be able to work alongside some amazing professionals who are already in the industry is such a golden opportunity! Getting acquainted with them will help me towards my own preparations for my future in the industry. I cannot wait for the thrill of performing in open-air venues all across the Cotswold’s with a live audience. This will be my debut performance with Tethered Wits - I can’t wait!”
What will be the first question that you ask our professional actors?
“Picking one question is tricky so I will give you two; ‘What would be your biggest piece of advice for me as someone preparing for the rigorous audition process for the UK’s leading Drama Schools?’ and ‘What is your dream role and why?’”
When did you know that you wanted to pursue a career in acting?
"When I was 5, I performed in an amateur production of 'Goldilocks and The Three Bears' in a local drama club where I arrogantly and unapologetically barged my way to the front of the stage! I later went on to spend every Saturday for 7 years at Stagecoach which led to being awarded 'Best Actor' at the Shaftesbury Avenue theatre in London amongst 3000 Stagecoach institutions throughout 5 countries."
